visionOS 27 is here, and we’ve already brought three of its new capabilities into STAGEit: cloth, projectors and wind.
STAGEit is our platform for building and delivering immersive presentations on Apple Vision Pro, and these new tools give us some interesting new ways to bring digital content into the real world.
We’ve been experimenting with all three.
Cloth
The new Cloth API lets us bring fabric into STAGEit with many of the same properties we already use for other objects in a scene.
More importantly, it moves and behaves like fabric.
That makes it particularly interesting for immersive presentations, where subtle physical movement can help digital content feel like it actually belongs in the environment rather than simply being placed on top of it.
Projectors
Projectors let us cast light, images and video onto surfaces in a STAGEit scene.
We started experimenting indoors, then took the same idea outside and tried projecting onto much larger real-world surfaces.
There’s a lot more we want to do with this, particularly when we start combining projection with fabric, lighting and Gaussian Splats in the same presentation.
Wind
And once we had fabric, there was an obvious next question: what happens when we add wind?
The interesting part is quite subtle. The virtual fabric can move in the same breeze as the real trees around it.
When the movement, lighting, gravity and physical environment start agreeing with each other, the digital content feels much more like it belongs in the space you’re standing in.
Cloth, projectors and wind are now part of what we’re building into STAGEit for visionOS 27.
