STAGEit Optimiser for preparing and optimising USDZ models on Mac

Introducing STAGEit Optimiser, Our Free USDZ Optimisation Tool for Mac

We built STAGEit Optimiser to help us get heavy 3D models running well on Apple Vision Pro. Now we're making it available to everyone for free.

We originally built STAGEit Optimiser as an internal Mac tool to help us get heavy 3D models running well on Apple Vision Pro.

After sharing a little about our workflow, people started asking if they could use it too. So we’ve decided to make it available to everyone, completely free.

STAGEit Optimiser analyses your 3D model, highlights potential performance issues and helps optimise it for use as a USDZ. It can handle jobs such as geometry reduction, material clean-up and texture optimisation without requiring you to do all of that work manually in Blender.

A tool we built for ourselves

Optimising 3D assets is a regular part of our work at Spatial Creative. Models that look great on a desktop workstation aren’t necessarily ready to drop straight into a spatial experience, particularly when scenes start getting more complex.

We built the Optimiser to make that preparation quicker and to give us a straightforward way to see where the problems were before bringing an asset into STAGEit.

It’s not something we originally intended to release as a product. It was simply useful to us, and we’d rather make tools like this available to the spatial computing community than leave them sitting on our machines.

Blender does the heavy lifting

STAGEit Optimiser uses Blender behind the scenes for much of its processing, so you’ll need to have Blender installed on your Mac. Once that’s there, the Optimiser is designed to handle the workflow without requiring you to work directly in Blender.

The app is currently in beta. It’s free, there’s no subscription, and your models aren’t uploaded anywhere - processing happens locally on your Mac.

You can download STAGEit Optimiser here.

If you try it with a model it struggles with, we’d genuinely like to hear about it. Feedback while we’re developing the beta will help us improve the Optimiser and support a wider range of 3D assets.
